A City Twice Born

Mableton takes its name from Robert Mable, a Scottish immigrant who purchased 300 acres of land in southern Cobb County in 1843. The community incorporated as a town in 1912, then disincorporated in 1916 after a serious flood, and spent more than a century afterward as an unincorporated part of Cobb County, growing to about 40,834 residents by the time of the 2020 census. Voters approved cityhood again in November 2022, and Mableton formally incorporated as a city once more in May 2023, closing out a long stretch of unincorporated status and giving the area its own municipal government for the first time in more than a hundred years.

Historic Sites and Open Space

The Mable House, built in the 1840s, still stands as one of the area's oldest structures and serves as a community arts and events venue with an amphitheater used for public gatherings. The property is formally known as the Mable House and Cemetery, a name that reflects its long history as a family homestead before it became a public gathering place. Nearby, the Concord Covered Bridge, one of the few historic covered bridges remaining in Georgia, and the historic Ruff's Mill site both reflect Mableton's rural past. The Silver Comet Trail begins in neighboring Smyrna and threads through Mableton on its way toward the Alabama state line, a paved, mostly level route that gives residents a long stretch for walking, jogging, and biking without leaving the trail for city streets.

Home to Six Flags Over Georgia

Six Flags Over Georgia opened within Mableton in 1967 as the second park in the Six Flags chain, following the original Texas park that had opened in 1961. The park has drawn visitors from across the region for decades, offering rides, live entertainment, and seasonal events throughout the year, and remains one of the most recognized landmarks associated with this part of Cobb County. One long-running attraction, the Riverview Carousel, was relocated to the park from the historic Riverview Park in Chicago.
